Bill Rothschild was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the son a prominent Rabbi Jacob Rothschild of The Temple. He received his B.A. from Yale, his J.D. from Harvard, and his rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. After a short stint as a congregational rabbi, he returned to the practice of law.
Bill’s father, Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild, was the rabbi of The Temple in Atlanta from 1946 until his death in 1973. He began preaching integration from his pulpit in 1947, and in 1958 the Temple itself suffered a bombing. Rabbi Jacob Rothschild and Bill’s mother, Janice, befriended the younger Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, during those turbulent times. Bill was a witness to the history of these two families, and will share with Congregation Beit Simcha his memories of that remarkable and challenging time, and Dr. King and his family.
Bill Rothschild and his wife, Brenda, now live in Sandy Springs, GA, where Bill devotes his time to grandchildren, Torah study and teaching, law practice, his 5 string banjo, and snowboarding.
